PUGET SOUND FARM BOX

IN THE FARM BOX THIS WEEK:

Leeks, Ralph’s Greenhouse, Mount Vernon, WA: A milder cousin of onion and garlic, leeks add a sweet, oniony flavor that give depth to any meal. Use them anywhere you’d use alliums, or try them on their own!

Carrots, Ralph’s Greenhouse, Mount Vernon, WA: Crisp, sweet, and full of flavor, local carrots are great for snacking, roasting, or adding to a hearty soup.

Red Bell Peppers, Hedlin Farm, Mount Vernon, WA: The sweetest of the bell peppers, these have more time on the vine and are great for snacking or cooking.

Thyme, The Crows Farm, Mount Vernon, WA: Thyme is a great accompaniment to savory dishes, having an earthy, herby, and bittersweet flavor.

Red Potatoes, Maple Wood Farm, Mount Vernon, WA: Red potatoes are waxy and creamy, keeping their shape when cooked, making them great for roasting.

Green Curly Kale, Pure Nelida, Mount Vernon, WA: With its ruffled leaves and rich flavor, this sturdy kale is great sautéed, tossed into soups, or massaged into a hearty salad.

Kabocha Squash Hedlin’s Family Farm & The Crows Farm: Kabocha squash is sweet and nutty, excellent for roasting, steaming, or frying.

Green Cabbage, Westwind Organics, Carnation, WA: Crunchy, earthy, and slightly sweet, green cabbage is about as versatile as it gets. Let it shine raw in salads or slaws, try it sautéed for a transformed, caramelized flavor, or cut it into steaks and roast it to bring out its sweetness.
